Concert for homeless veterans Sep. 18

Debbie Myers and Friends will host the 7th annual Maine’s Homeless Veterans Benefit Concert on Sunday, September 18 at noon at the Augusta Civic Center. All proceeds will support the annual “Stand Down” event at the Togus Veterans Administration building in Chelsea, a day when as many homeless veterans that can be reached are brought together to access services provided by the VA and other organizations.

The goal is to find permanent housing for as many veterans as possible. Prior to the first of the six annual concerts, there were over 1,200 homeless veterans in Maine. The latest information shows that number is now down to 438.

This year’s event will feature some of Maine’s talented Country Music entertainers, including Debbie Morin, Peter Allen, Nashville resident Shirley Myers, Allison Ames, Travis Pinkham, Ken & Jane Brooks; a talented house band; and “A Celebration of Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn” with Conway’s son, Michael Twitty. For more information about the event, call 712-2392 or see www.mhvbc.org.

Tickets are $17 for general admission, $37 for floor seating, and $67 for VIP seating, including a “meet and greet.” To buy tickets, call the Augusta Civic Center Box Office at 626-2400 or see www.ticketmaster.com.
